How to play 2048

2048 is played on a 4×4 grid. Use the arrow keys — or swipe on a touchscreen — to slide every tile in one direction. When two tiles showing the same number collide, they merge into a single tile with double the value. After each move a new 2 or 4 appears on a random empty cell. Keep merging to build bigger numbers and try to create a tile worth 2048. The game ends when the grid is full and no moves remain.

Your score grows by the value of each merged tile, and your best score is saved in your browser so you can try to beat it. Everything runs entirely on your device — no account, no upload.

Tips

Pick a corner and keep your largest tile there, building a descending row toward it. Avoid the move that would pull your big tile away from its corner, and plan a couple of moves ahead so the board does not fill with stranded singles.
