How to play

Word Guess hides a five-letter word, and you have six tries to find it. Type any valid five-letter word and press Enter. Each tile then changes color to score your guess: green means the letter is correct and in the right spot, yellow means the letter is in the word but in a different spot, and gray means the letter is not in the word at all. Use those clues to narrow down the answer, line up the green tiles, and solve the puzzle before you run out of guesses.

The on-screen keyboard mirrors what you have learned — each key takes on the best color it has earned so far — and you can type with either the on-screen keys or your physical keyboard. There is one shared daily puzzle that is the same for everyone on a given day, plus a random word button when you want to keep playing. Your progress and a simple win streak are saved in your browser.

Tips

Open with a word rich in common letters to light up the board quickly — something with several vowels and frequent consonants. When a letter turns yellow, try it in a new position next time. Watch out for repeated letters: a letter can appear more than once, and the colors account for that exactly, so a second copy may stay gray if the answer only contains it once.
